According to the Which? Website, there are six steps to initiating and assessing sole traders / businesses:
1. Credit check
An introductory credit check to authenticate the financial solidity of a sole trader / business.
Customer reference checks, chosen at random by a member of the Which? Trusted Traders endorsement team to guarantee a broad range of previous customers are consulted.
3. Business procedures
A comprehensive examination of business and administrative processes.
4. Interview and assessment
Businesses are visited in person by a Which? Trusted Traders assessor and interviewed thoroughly.
5. Code of Conduct
The sole trader/business signing up to the scheme, therefore agreeing to abide by the code of conduct and terms and conditions.
6. Endorsed trader
The trader can now tell their customers that they have passed our assessment process and are an endorsed Which? Trusted trader.
As a Which? Trusted trader, you’ll have access to a range of benefits such as use of the Which? Trusted Traders Logo – something which influences potential customers by its certification of excellence. You’ll also receive a searchable online profile and access to an ombudsman service, should you find yourself in a dispute situation.
The best way to guarantee a Which? Trusted Trader certificate is to prepare thoroughly before the six step program begins. This means consistently sticking to the following three tips:

· Have a good client base
· Make sure your qualifications are all current and relevant
